Laura Hamilton began working as a make-up artist and hair stylist some 16 years ago, after training at the prestigious London College of Fashion and working on Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Phantom of the Opera’. She worked her way up to the position of make-up supervisor and later went on to work with Hollywood stars including Ewan McGregor (Star Wars), Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love), and Kristin Scott-Thomas (The English Patient), as well as many other films and TV programmes.
World war one presented a big turning point in women’s fashion. While the men were fighting, the women had to pick up their work. This also meant heavy industrial activities so they needed suitable clothes to do that. Here the taboo of women wearing trousers started fading.
