Vogue Paris Cadeaux is featuring images of children dressed in opulent fashions in their December/January issue. The little models, Thylane, Lea, and Prune were styled by Melanie Huynh and photographed by Sharif Hamza.
The images have caused a lot of controversy in the media and there are divided opinions,
all surrounding the children.
Our concern is, what impact will this have in our already age obsessed society? Wasn’t
featuring models as young as 15 dressed in couture pressuring enough for all the mature
women -who are the ones that actually can afford couture- to ‘stay young’?
What do you think about the spread?

I personnally think this is a great experience for those two lil girls and I m sure they had a lot of fun! Imagine how many time did you try on your mum dresses! This time there is a whole team only for them and they are the princess of the day!! Of course it become kind of pathetic when the parents force their children to do that only for money. But in this special case, I think this is acceptable
And they are amazingly professional for their age !

I think there’s something really creepy about this whole spread. I think it’s sad and strange. The girls look way too provocative for their age. And not just that, but the photos are really incitive. While the girls have had complete hair and make-up treatments, Vogue-style, I think it’s way too much. I say creepy.

I have no problem with children wearing opulent clothes and appearing in fashion magazines. Fashion is not meant to reflect reality and clothes aren’t always shot as they will be worn – how dull woud that be?
I think it could be a great confidence building experience for the girls, depending on the attitudes taken by them, their parents and all involved. However, I do think the low cut dresses and high heels sexualise them beyond what’s appropriate in a couple of shots.
As for the agism issue; it is not what is presented in the media which puts women under pressure, it is the view that they take of it. These are young children, not competition for women on any level (ok, other than in terms of who got to feature in this spread) and speaking as a 16-year-old I wouldn’t compare my skin to theirs for a moment!
