Meet (if you haven’t already!) the coolest of all cats, Kristen McMenamy.
American Supermodel & 90’s icon Kristen, who defines herself as the “first weird-looking model”
is not only fashion’s but also art’s latest androgynous muse!
Her platinum locks and irreverent looks can be seen everywhere these days, from being the centre
of Viktor and Rolf’s Fall 2010 dramatic performance show:
To being the centre of a fantastic art/photography exhibition called: ‘Kristen’ where hubby Miles
Aldridge – yup, as in the fabulous Fashion photographer! – along with artist Chantal Joffe, illustrate
her unconventional beauty in a series of portraits exhibited at Galerie Alex Daniels in Amsterdam:

Ok, so you get the idea of how cool she is right? Well, I’ll let you in on another couple of even cooler
facts about her:
-Karl Lagerfeld, (hello! Chanel everyone) her favourite Fashion Designer, walked her down
the isle at her wedding! Now, how cool is that!!! I wonder though… what do you tell your Dad in that instance: Erm, sorry Dad, you kind of suck so Karl Lagerfeld is walking me down the isle instead.
You don’t mind do you dear?.
Ha! and I am not even judging, I would do the exact same thing if Karl offered. Ahem! Are you
listening Karl?
-Dazed and Confused who are worshipping her on their August edition, tell us of the moment
in the history of modelling when she famously: “steamed past security at the Ritz, into Versace’s
fitting, on hearing that he thought she was too fat for his show. Kristen stripped down to her heels, demanding “You call this fat?”and was unsurprisingly booked on the spot. Way to go!
You teach ‘em girl.
So, turns out that modelling past your 30’s isn’t really a myth is it, and in the case of Kristen,
it isn’t only down to her unique look, her platinum locks and her ‘I don’t give a toss attitude’
but most importantly, down to her fabulous personality.
At last! have luxury designers finally realized that they should choose models the age of their target audience – hello, yes the 40-60 somethin’ mega rich ladies who can afford Lanvin, Chanel, Prada
etc and shop at Net-A-Porter daily – instead of dressing teen-looking girls in expensive clothes that
real girls their age can’t afford. Am I right or am I right?
