Spot the fakes: Abbey Lee Kershaw, Brad koenig and Baptiste Giabiconi in Chanel – Fall 2010
‘It’s a hairy situation‘- Says Karl Lagerfeld and I couldn’t agree more with him. “The triumph of fake fur” is how he refers to his latest collection which brings together words that we were not expecting
to see in the same sentence (at least not in our lifetime): ‘Fake fur’ and ‘Chanel’. I know! Maybe the icebergs really are starting to melt that fast!
So what on earth is going on? Well, maybe that is the question that Karl wants us to be asking
ourselves, what is happening on planet earth, what is happening with Global warming or ‘Global
Cooling’ as Karl calls it, pointing out that we have had a real winter and we still have a real winter
going on. With all this in mind seems that Mr Lagerfeld decided that it was about time that Chanel
started caring about polar bears too and for the environment, thus delivering an “eco-chic” collection,
full of fashionable, lovable and stroke-able, Chanel fake fur.

Faking it: Freja Beha Erichsen and Sigrid Agren in Chanel – Fall 2010
I know! the Nona-de-Vils of this world are not going to be the ones clapping at the idea, but thank
goodness for them there is still Dennis Basso who makes the most adorable 101 Dalmatians coats.
(Kidding of course he doesn’t kill Dalmatians, he just gets rid of other little furry “pests” such as
chinchillas, and all their lovely and furry little cousins and the rest of their immediate family).

The real deal: Nathaline Marchett and Georgina Stojilkovic in Dennis Basso – Fall 2010
“My only true love darling, I live for furs, I wish for furs! is there a woman in all this whretched
world who doesn’t?” – Cruella de Vil.
These is one of the good things about being Karl Lagerfeld, that you can get away with, well
“non-murder” in this case, and pack up a collection full of fake-fur yeti boots and be called a
chic environmentalist (e)! Bet Matalan and Primark don’t get even half of the same enthusiasm
and eco-awards for their fake furs.
Me? I am loving those fabulous high waisted white slacks at Chanel but I am not “feeling” the
fake fur business, a little voice inside keeps telling me: “isn’t that block of ice actually more
expensive than all that fake fur? Hmmm…..”

Faking it: Caroline Brasch Nielsen and Denisa Dvorakova in Chanel – Fall 2010
According to Karl, fur isn’t what it used to be, you can’t hardly tell the difference these days.
I am not so sure about that, you see I like my pets to smell of pets not of plastic made in China,
charged at “pet price” thank you very much Karl.
“You cannot fake chic but you can be chic in fake fur” – Karl Lagerfeld.
And you mon cheries? What do you think? Vous aimez bien le fake fur? avec les yetti boots?
Oh Pongo it’s her is that devil woman!
Cruella, sister, something tells me that our days are counted.

Cheerio, cheerio darling!

I love that you can still have chic fur coats without skinning animals alive. I think this is great progress!

[...] Karl Lagerfeld is the ring master of the haute couture circus! He always rocks up and surprises us giving us, the unthinkable, the unimaginable, the unexpected, season after season and he never fails at that. Who else could pull off fake fur and get applauded for it, I mean, come on!!! Remember? [click here to see] [...]
